The Pleasure Talk:

Moo! Woof! Meow! These are some sounds you might be making in scene, but that’s not exactly what we would call “direct communication”.

“The Talk” has taken many forms with many names over the years, with frameworks for navigating safer sex and healthy boundaries, including Evelin Dacker’s “STARS” & Reid Mihalko’s “Elevator Speech”, among others. This class builds upon skills learned using these tools and offers an updated framework created by and for our Sex Positive community. You can use The Pleasure Talk in your own relationships, at our events, and anywhere you find yourself in intimate connections with others.

This workshop is fun and interactive, with opportunities for discussion as a whole group and to practice the pieces of the talk in smaller breakout rooms. You’ll meet the facilitators at the start, we’ll set some guidelines for the event, and then you’ll get to check in with some of the other participants in small breakout rooms.

For the rest of the workshop, we’ll introduce the talk and then go through the three parts of the talk, followed by an opportunity to practice each in small group breakout rooms. We will also have a bio break about halfway through. As with all of our workshops, you can always opt out of any activity at any time.

NOTE: This class counts for leveling purposes in SPW and in many chapters where a safer sex talk class is part of leveling up requirements. If you’re a chapter member, check with your chapter leadership if you have questions about those requirements.

@Lady_Vivus (she/her) is a spiritually & culturally driven sex-positive educator & organizer. Lady Vivus is a Professional Switchinatrix, hucow & Bootblack, & is a self-proclaimed “Jewish American Pleasure Princess” & Dairy Queen.

She hopes to inspire others to enjoy sexuality & dynamics from an authentic place, as well as help folx find their spiritual place with leather & healing within it. Her love of community, education, & sharing ideas with other sex-positive folx is insatiable.

Lady V has taught all over the United States for organizations & conferences such as Kinkfest, Southeast Leatherfest, Sex Positive World, SubSpace, & more! Lady V currently serves as an Advocacy Board Member for Sex Positive World & proudly helps facilitate their education.

Lady V has also served her community by facilitating public health events, most recently being K!nk Out Loud in partnership with The Equi Institute & Multnomah County Public Health Dept. She also serves as the lead organizer for the Salem Munch & Community Co-Director for Kinkfest 2024. Jamie Cawteli aka Gwnny:

Jamie is the executive director of Sex Positive Portland; she has been hosting speed dating since 2019. She is polyamorous, queer, and kinky, with a love of shibari/rope bondage. She leads discussion groups and classes on relationships of all sizes, orientations, and dynamics. Her background is in communications, video production, and marketing & or social media @ExploringJamie.
