Just before Covid changed our world, Tormentor (aka David Rolin) had decided to sell his rather large collection of B&W prints. All photos taken by him in the last 40 years or so. Obviously this didn’t happen then, and now David’s life has changed immensely from early 2020. He will be 87 next month, and is in the third year of dealing with a dementia diagnosis. This is a man who was a founding member of the PLA, Kinkfest attendee up until 2019, and a brilliant photographer with his art shown at KF, SEAF, and many other shows. Those memories are slipping away from him, but he and his closest humans have all decided that the best thing to do with his art is to have a big sale. He loves the thought of others giving these pieces the attention they deserve!
On June 12th, from 6-8 before Spanktuary, we will have a sale event and make David’s art available to all! Any money made from this will help us get David moved into a place where he can get the increasing amount of medical care and have it be easily accessible.
There are prints of many sizes, most are already matted, and a great many are Professionally framed and matted as they have been displayed at shows over the years.
If you have been the subject for any shoots with David that you believe may be in the collection, please send an email to widespreadpanicpdx@gmail.com with “DAVID ROLIN PHOTOS SUBJECT” as the subject line. If I can find the photos, I will give them to you at no charge.
This is David’s bio note on how he looks at fine art photography and the subjects of that photography:
“I have been doing fine art photography professionally since 1982. I shoot, primarily, in-studio but sometimes work on location. The broad theme of my work is The Essential Feminine. I explore this through the dynamics of social taboo, gender issues, personal expression, private ritual and more. Every shoot seeks to examine these issues through the perspective unique to that particular individual(s). I consider each shoot to be a singular life event during which I seek to find the resonance unique to both the subject and myself. I join together with a widely diverse representation of people in terms of gender, sexual preference, race and body types to create spontaneous art. The ambience of the shoots is improvisational, collaborative, boundary sensitive and non-judgmental. Together, we seek only the truth as we live those moments.”
